# Backup plans overview

## Backup plans overview <a href="#backup_plan_overview" id="backup_plan_overview"></a>

To run any task in **GitProtect**, you first need to configure a backup plan. All existing backup plans are available in the **Plans** tab, located on the left side of the **GitProtect Management Service** application.

In this tab, you can manage all backup plans, with all types of protected resources displayed in a list. Backup plans can be managed in two ways:

1. **By selecting plans with the checkbox on the left** — you can run, deactivate, or remove them.
2. **By using the action icons on the right** — you can run, edit, or view details of a specific plan.

## Backup plans creation <a href="#backup_plan_creation" id="backup_plan_creation"></a>

{% hint style="info" %}
It is worth noting that the backup form is generally consistent across all resource types. The main difference lies in how the data to be backed up is selected. Once you choose the specific data—such as a **GitHub** organization—the remaining sections of the form are almost identical.

#### The idea behind creating a backup plan is to follow a few simple steps:

1. Decide what type of resources you want to protect.
2. Select the specific data to be included in the backup plan.
3. Choose an existing storage or add a new one.
4. Configure the **Scheduler** and **Retention** sections to automate the process.
5. (Optional) Adjust advanced settings.
