API limits

This article describes the Jira API rate limits.

Rate limits are a security measure designed to prevent platform abuse.

API limitations

Sending a large number of requests in a short period can overload or destabilize the application. To avoid this, Jira controls how many requests you can send within a specific time window. If you reach this limit, Jira temporarily blocks further requests until the limit resets. This ensures stable platform performance and protects the system against accidental or intentional misuse.
